Experimenting with Code
I spend most days building and working with websites. This site is just my Code Playground to allow me a space to explore new things. A GitHub repository makes a great platform for a website plus it offers some really great tools available with just a browser. GitHub is available to all you only need a a free GitHub account this makes it a great solution for starters to learn. Once you have built your website you can then deploy to modern static hosting this then allows you to have a Continuous Deployment pipeline that means when you update the GitHub repository the updates flow to your website automatically.
Start your website journey today with our JasmineWS.uk tutorial
Create Repository
Using the JWS One template we create a GitHub repository.
Firstly make sure you are logged into your GitHub account. Then click the green "Use this template" button and choose from the dropdown "Create a new repository".
Check out our JWS tutorial docs page Create a Repository for more details.
Edit
We can then edit the website in the browser using GitHub Web Editor & GitHub Codespaces.
Find out how to open the editor on our Open VSCode page, then go on to learn how to use GitHub Codespaces.
Deploy
So far we have setup a GitHub action to deploy the site to GitHub pages. But now we want to Deploy the website to Azure Static Web Apps. This will give us access to use Azure Functions.
Our tutorial page that covers setting up GitHub Pages.
Continuous Deployment
Once GitHub Actions are setup any further edit / commit will start the process to update the website automatically.
Our tutorial page that covers Lets Make an Edit and Alternative Branching.
Currently I'm looking into Modern Static Hosting
I'm currently working on a number of projects that revolve around GitHub tooling and Continuous Deployment pipeline. Also exploring the workflow for how to best work with images for websites.
Long term goal
My long term aim has always been to make website publishing available to all. You should not have to have loads of prior knowledge and lots of money to publish your ideas.
